Leading the Change: Plastipak’s Bold Commitment to Renewable Energy and Efficiency

Oct 3, 2025

At Plastipak, we believe that building a better future starts with the choices we make today. As a pioneer in sustainable packaging and recycling solutions, we are driving change by setting bold renewable energy targets, investing in efficiency, and empowering our teams to deliver meaningful results.

Setting Ambitious Goals

75% renewable or emissions-free energy use by 2032

We are committed to achieving 75% renewable or emissions-free energy use by 2032, a target that reflects both our ambition and our responsibility to the planet. To get there, we plan to triple our on-site, near-site, or virtual power purchase agreements from our 2022 baseline.

Making Measurable Progress

61.2% of electricity consumed globally by Plastipak comes from clean, green sources

Our actions are already making an impact. In 2024, 61.2% of Plastipak’s global electricity comes from clean, green sources, helping to reduce our overall carbon footprint. These investments also benefit our customers by lowering their Scope 3 emissions, creating shared value across the supply chain.

Taking a Strategic Approach

Renewable energy certificates (RECs)

We are using renewable energy certificates (RECs) as an important bridge strategy, while actively transitioning to on-site and near-site solar photovoltaic and biogas installations. This dual approach allows us to reduce our emissions today while building long-term, resilient energy solutions for tomorrow.

Leading in Energy Efficiency

Electricity accounts for approximately 84% of Plastipak’s Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, making efficiency a top priority. Through real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making, we continuously find new ways to reduce energy use across our operations.

Our Energy Reduction Teams play a key role in this work, driving best practices in:

+ Refining resin drying processes
+ Enhancing injection molding efficiency
+ Modernizing chilling plants and pumping systems
+ Optimizing compressed air usage

Driving Global Standards

We have implemented the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard at almost 100% of European sites, with a goal of completion by 2026. Full implementation ensures a consistent, best-in-class approach to energy management worldwide.

At Plastipak, we see every challenge as an opportunity to innovate. By setting bold goals, empowering our people, and investing in energy efficiency, we are delivering solutions that benefit our associates, customers, and communities—while helping shape a more sustainable future.

Our Commitment

At Plastipak, sustainability is both a responsibility and a commitment woven into every part of our business. From sourcing and production to energy use across our sites, we prioritize safe working environments, responsible practices, and thoughtful decision-making that reduce our environmental impact.

Our global sustainability strategy is driven by our leadership team and advanced by dedicated Sustainability Champions at each site, who lead energy efficiency projects, pellet loss reduction programs, and community initiatives that make a measurable difference.

By embedding sustainability into our value chain and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we continue to set ambitious targets around energy, resource efficiency, and climate action—ensuring that Plastipak not only delivers for our customers and stakeholders today but also builds a more resilient, low-carbon future for generations to come.
