Technical Training System
In 1995, Plastipak launched the Technical Training System to support the performance of technicians and engineers throughout
the company. Technical Training Modules help associates gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work safely and to
produce quality products. The design, development and implementation of the Technical Training System is a joint effort
among members of various production teams, site technical training teams and the staff of the Technical Training &
Performance Support Department. Plastipak conducts extensive interviews to identify the constraints that affect training
at Plastipak sites. This analysis is the foundation for determining training program content and methodology. By approaching
training in this way, Plastipak has created a robust training program curriculum of more than 100 modules relating to PET
blow molding, PET injection molding and HDPE extrusion and blow molding.
Plastipak's Performance Management system helps managers set strategic objectives to ensure alignment with business goals.
This proprietary process is unique to Plastipak and has allowed the company to achieve exceptional business results. All
associates are expected to participate in annual performance reviews. Managers and associates use the information from these
reviews to create individual action plans that assist associates in strengthening their professional skills. For key associates,
Plastipak creates individualized career development plans that include classroom and practical learning opportunities.
Plastipak Academy is an institution of higher learning within Plastipak. Its purpose is to equip leaders throughout
the Plastipak enterprise with the skills required for personal and professional growth.
Many effective skill-building programs are already in place across the organization, such as skill blocks, job-specific technical
training, regulatory training and new-hire training, all of which serve an important purpose; but each has a different audience
and mission than the learning programs offered through the Academy. Academy programs are specifically designed to develop and
equip leaders who will continue Plastipak’s tradition of excellence and success as the company grows and expands.
Leaders are selected for specific Academy programs by their managers based on criteria that include the individual's development
goals, the skills needed for the job and the organization’s current business needs. Plastipak Academy has delivered more
than 80 learning programs since launching in March 2006 and continues to draw participants from across Plastipak.
