| A Serious Commitment to Sustainability |
|
Plastipak and Whiteline Express take the responsibility
for protecting the environment seriously. Sustainable
operations to help protect the environment are
important enough to both operations to be written
into Plastipak's and Whiteline's business plans.
In 2007, Whiteline began
testing and implementing many of the industry's
leading sustainability practices, primarily focusing
on improving fuel efficiency and decreasing emissions.
The
foundation for Whiteline’s sustainability efforts
is its affiliation with the EPA-sponsored SmartWay
Transportation Partnership. As part of Whiteline's program
to meet Plastipak's established goals,
Whiteline is installing anti-idling devices,
aerodynamic fairing and higher efficiency
tractors.
Whiteline's sustainable improvements
earned the company the SmartWay certification --
a national honor recognizing environmental
stewardship.

| Increasing Fuel Efficiency |
|
Whiteline Express manages its daily and overall procedures to conserve energy and reduce the use of limited natural raw materials. The company incorporates technical monitory systems that measure and minimize the use of fuel, reducing fuel emissions.
Whiteline's reduced fuel usage and decreased emissions
illustrate Plastipak's commitment to sustainability.
Whiteline and Plastipak are dedicated to protecting the planet’s natural
resources and the environment for future generations,
lessening dependence on foreign energy sources
and shrinking Whiteline’s carbon footprint to
help prevent climate change.

| Specific Efforts for Increasing Sustainability |
|
Whiteline Express takes pride in its ability to control operations in ways that contribute to Plastipak's sustainability initiatives.
Specifically, Whiteline has:
- Become a member of SmartWay, the EPA’s collaborative effort with trucking companies;
- Purchased more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient trucks;
- Rolled out new energy-efficient engine settings for the fleet and distributed driver training materials to improve fuel economy;
- Outfitted the fleet with fuel-saving, low-rolling resistance tires;
- Switched to lower viscosity, full synthetic driveline lubricants to improve MPG and decrease emissions;
- Began use of biodiesel with 15% of the fleet;
- And specified the color white for tractors
to reduce the energy demands of cooling equipment.
